At John Scurr, Year 5 and Year 6 can take part in Debate Mate, an exciting club that teaches children debating skills and improves their confidence. The club is run by volunteers from the charity Debate Mate and sessions involve a mix of games, discussion and mock debates. Children rapidly grow accustomed to speaking in front of an audience and learn how to think on their feet during a live debate. The sessions are high energy, thought-provoking and a lot of fun!
John Scurr Primary school works closely with THAMES music specialists – to ensure our pupils receive specialist music provision and role models. We also work closely with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama to ensure pupils in Early Years, KS1 and KS2 take part in their programme of events. This is led by Joanne Gibson, who works as a singing and music lead with us across all Key Stages. Joanne also runs our after school choir.

School Library Service
One of our greatest enrichment offers at John Scurr is our membership of the School’s Library Service which enables our teachers to refresh their artefacts, reading material and real life objects across the curriculum. This ensures that our materials are always in line with our ‘anti – racist’ curriculum and allows our pupils to receive relevant resources that are replenished termly.
